The Old Cemetery Waits
Granite stones above the ground
With name and date engraved
One tells of when one was born
The other of when beneath he laid

Stones that stand in straightened rows
As soldiers on a march
Upon a ground set aside
Protected by a gated arch

Stones that stand as sentinels
Guarding those that sleep
As if to protect the ones
Who lie beneath so deep

Stones that stand to mark the place
Where a loved one last was seen
Who is covered now with darkened earth
Blanketed with grass now green

Stones that stand solid and firm
In snow and sleet and rain
Call out to the living who pass
Come and read my name

We wish not to leave behind
Those here we love
But we each will one day lay beneath
Where the stone now stands above

Sometimes I Forget
Forgive me lord I pray
When I fail to recognize
The blessings you bestow
Please, help me to relize

So much I have been given
Yet so often I do not see
Your gentle hand outstretched
Reaching down to me

My days so often crowded
With things that hold no meaning
And my failure to know
The process of  your gleaning

Lord please forgive me
That I complain I regret
When the world presses in on me
I pray I not forget.

I Was Once A Home
I wrote this poem about an old home place that I have passed many times on my way to Eureka Springs Ark. with my wife. The old house even in its aged and worn condition is beautiful and intriguing .The sets just off of Highway 62 in a small clump of trees, alone. There is no other structure around it. It is leaning more each time we pass. It's outside boards are gone and it is completely grey in color. I know that it is just a matter of time before it falls into a pile of forgotten memories. I always stop to take a picture and spend a few moments looking upon this old home place. The joys the sadness, the Thanksgivings and Christmases celebrated. Family gatherings . Warm summers and cold winters, beautiful springs and peaceful fall days. Children running to and fro . What stories would you tell me if you could. But sadly, someday it will be gone, taking with it all the scenes and memories of all that happened there. Then it will be forgotten, and remembered no more. If only the past could speak to us.

If you have some time to visit
I have some words to tell
So if it is you can
Please stop and stay a spell

But if you must hurry on
Don't worry, I will understand
You are young and busy
But please stop if you can

I was once like you
Young and full of life
But the years they have flown
Like a bird into the night

I have long withstood
The blowing winds of time
As I stubbornly grasp
This place I know as mine

And with each passing storm
My foundation weaker grows
And my strength is slowly lost
As from my frame it flows

I was beautiful once
Here underneath these trees
And folks that were passing by
Would stop to gaze at me

My paint was clean and crisp
And I did firmly stand
I was proud of who I was
As I stood tall and grand

A family from long ago
They once called me home
Inside where they lived
I saw true love was shone

I recall the many sounds
The old clocks tick that counted time
The laughter as memories were made
Each day and at special times

I have also felt the sadness
My floors have been stained with tears
From many times of sorrow
Suffered through the years

Their many words are echoed
Within my empty halls
And the ghost of those who loved here
Speak and rest within my walls

But to your ear there is only silence
For my family now has gone
And I have been left here
These many years alone

Each of them one by one
Left to go away
And I had always hoped
They would return someday

But so many years have past
And I have grown weak and worn
Now I am grey
And my boards are bent and torn

I know not how much longer
I will have the strength to hold
The precious memories within
Worth so much more than gold

I know that I will someday fall
Into finality
No more remembered here
A home or a family

If you dont mind my friend
May ask you to mark this place
And remember here once stood a home
Full of love and grace

Tomorrow's Wind
The wind so ever gentle blows
It is all around though we cannot see
Yet we know that it is there
By the joyous dancing of the leaves

The touch of the wind we can feel
It's presence to us is proven
And since the days of long ago
Wind through the life of man has woven

We can hear the unseen winds
As they from the four directions rise
But the winds that today we hear
Will they fill tomorrow's skies ?

For unlike this'moments unseen wind
Tomorrows winds may not blow
And like an unseen wind we have never felt
Tomorrows winds we may never know

An Empty Pocket Book
It seems in my hand I always hold
An empty pocket book
But I would find that I am rich
If around me I will only look

Looking up into the morning sky
I find a treasure chest of gold
As the rays of the sun shine down on me
And give me warmth from the cold

Then as the sun of day retires
Darkness breaks forth as a rageing river
And gazing up I see the moon
And a million coins of silver

This moon of night provides for me
A light unto my path
And the stars give to me direction
When the gold of day has passed

I want to thank you Lord
For I have only to look
To know that I am rich beyond compare
Though I hold an empty pocket book

The Cross
Often my thoughts turn to the Cross
The beautiful Cross of Calvary
Upon which my saviour bled and died
To give eternal life to me

It's wooden beams bear the scars
Of nails that pierced his hands
His precious feet were riven to
And from his side blood and water ran

The Cross has stood over two thousand years
And even today it stands
As a bridge from heavens door
Down to the heart of mortal man

O the precious blood stained tree
That old and rugged nail scarred Cross
I count it as a gift of grace
And all I am as loss

Luke 23:34
And Jesus said,
"Father forgive them
they know not
what they do."

Thank you Lord.

IF
IF
If there were no GOD
If there were no creation
If there were no Christ
If there were no cross of Calvary
If there were no tomb
If there were no resurrection
If there were no forgiveness
If there were no promise
If there were no eternity
If there were no heaven
If there were no hell
If there were no hope
If there were no Bible
If there were no truth
If man did not have a soul
Then,
There would be no reason.

Finding Time Is Gone
My mind cannot comprehend
The quickness of the speed
Of time as it passes
As more of time we need

The sun rises up each morning
And a day anew begins
Then the sun will set
And the day anew, it ends

The morning came so silent
As a promise new and stark
Then silently disappeared
Into the black of dark

Another day to quickly gone
Now the days have turned to years
With more behind than ahead
And eyes now dimmed with tears

Will You Be Missed
You are only a weary pilgrim
While upon this road of life
While passing this way upon your journey
To a land of day or night

You are here for just a little while
What mercies will you leave behind
Will you be the feet of the crippled man
Or the eyes of one whose blind

There is a space only you can fill
While traveling upon this earth
Fill it with kindness to all mankind
Help each man to know his worth

Do unto all the men you meet
As you would have them do to you
This is Gods command to all
It is life's golden rule

Then when at last you are called
To that land of joy and bliss
Folks left here will remember you
And your presence will be missed

Do You.....
Do you show to others
The love shown to you
Not the superficial
But a love that's true

Do you reach out
Extend a helping hand
To someone who is down
And thereby help them stand

Do you speak the words
That another needs to hear
Or do you remain silent
Because of doubt and fear

Do you forgive another
As you were once forgiven
Or do you condem
For the life one is living

Do you show compassion
To the blind the sick the lame
Show mercy to the poor
Treat all men the same

If we could learn to see
Through the eyes of Jesus every man
Then these things we would do
For then we would understand

Unseen Trash
There is cast among us each day
Such garbage and filth and trash
Things that need to be burnt, destroyed
And turned forever into ash

We walk each day among the filth
It blocks our path upon every side
Sometimes it seems to overwhelm
And causes me to seek to hide

It repulses the senses as rotted flesh
Clouding up my mind
A path not littered is what I seek
But that path it seems I cannot find

This rotted filth of which I speak
Floats all around unseen
Near the ground and n the air
And is unto our ear a fiend

The trash the filth the rot
Is mankinds spoken word
In songs and speech and poetry
Are uttered things that never should be heard

Fleeting Moments
Moments mirror a locomotive
Moving swiftly upon the rail
Or a ship of war upon the sea
Gliding by wind and sail

They are ever racing forward
To meet the end of day
Even there they do not rest
Till they have met the grave

Then the many traveled miles
Will become but a faded scene
Then for forgiveness you did or did not give
You will never have the chance again

The moments will always quickly flee
Carrying us closer to that time of rest
When we can no more speak or do
Because our heart lies still within our chest

Why is it, we as Christians
At least by words, that's what we claim
Talk so bad of others
If Christlikeness is our aim

Why is it that we
Speak anger against another
If it is we truly believe
They are our sister and our brother

Why is it we utter
Words that should not be said
Against another's soul
And therefore slay that person, dead

This sin I do not understand
For I myself stand guilty to
I claim that I am Christian
But my tounge destroys you

Every word I speak
Should lift up and edify
Not tear down and destroy
And cause sorrows to multiply

If I am truly Christian
Saved by Gods own son
Why do I speak evil
And not control my tounge

Lazarus, Come Forth
Lazarus come forth
There's a new day dawning
Lazarus come forth
It's brand new morning
Lazarus come forth
From the deep dark tomb
Lazarus come forth
I give new life to you

This thought came to me this morning as I was
driving to work. It came in the way of a song
as I was singing bible verses to myself. .You
know , I will never be raised from death back
to life only to die again, but I will be raised from death to life eternal and live forevermore in heaven with my lord and my saviour
Jesus Christ.

Home
Heaven must be
A beautiful home
For loved ones we know
That have already gone
A beautiful land
Full of eternal day
Where those here we loved
Now in eternity wait
Where the music is so sweet
And all sounds are so fair
Rivers like glass
In that land over there
The birds how they sing
Songs of sweet praise
In a land that knows not
The ending of days

Peace In Gods Creation
Each new day I greet
Is a gift from God to me
Help me lord to always
The beauty of nature see

Help me lord to listen
Clear my mind of fear
To the sounds of your creation
Help me lord to hear

Your many sweet aromas
Within the air they swell
May I touch the fragrance
Of your breath O  God by smell

It seems I am surrounded
So much by glass and steel
Yet when  I touch a leaf
Your power God I feel

In nature there exist
So many of Gods blessings
Stop to see , hear smell and feel
The peace we are missing

A Prayer I Prayed
Dear precious lord in heaven
Please give unto me your ear
The words in prayer I pray
Please dear Jesus hear

I am so confused
The path I cannot see
Please lord take my hand
And show the way to me

I need you precious Jesus
To take my hand and guide
But it seems I cannot find you
It seems from me you hide

Please my lord who loves me
Take my trembling hand
Guide me lord, direct my paths
As I travel this troubled land

Amen

I was going through a very difficult time
not to long ago in which I did not know
which way to go or what to do.
I prayed this prayer to My father in heaven
And he did guide me through the struggle
and help me through, in his time.
Thank you lord Jesus for hearing my prayer
and providing a way and lifting the burden.
All praise be unto you for ever and ever more.

How Beautiful Heaven Must Be
I am so often held in awe
Of the created beauty my eyes can see
Quietly to myself I think
How beautiful heaven must be

When I look upon all of creation
All that is made by Gods mighty hand
He has given such beauty here
How must it be in that heavenly land

I think upon the promise given
In the pages of Gods word so true
In my fathers house are many mansions
There I have a home built for you

So it is to this precious promise
That I so faithfully hold
Knowing someday I shall walk in his presence
In a land where the streets are paved with gold
When my thoughts take my eyes to the cross
Upon which my saviour bled and died
Jesus Christ I cannot see
No matter how hard I try

I behold that old and rugged tree
And the nails that pierced his feet and hands
But my Christ he is not there
Though today the tree still stands

To my soul it brings great joy
The empty cross of Calvary
For I know there he no longer hangs
Upon that bloodstained tree

My eyes can see my risen Lord
But not where he shed his blood for sin
The cross stands bare before an empty tomb
Christ Is Coming Back Again!

O Me of Little Faith
And Jesus said
"Peace, be still"
And at the sound of his voice
The winds immeadiatly ceased
And there was a great calm

If I , as his child
Could only learn to have faith
And listen and obey
As obediently
As the elements of nature
Which cannot think
Or discern
But yet obey his commands
Absent of hesitation or apprehension
Then I will have truly learned
How to trust and obey

A Question For Thought
What has a man gained
What of value does his treasure chest hold
If he die without Christ
And lose his own soul

Matthew 16:26
I pray that you be woven Lord
Into the fabric of my life
That I might always speak of you
Continually both day and night

I pray that you be sewn
Into the hems of my mind
So that I may always see
And never to truth be blind

I pray that you reside
Within each crease and seam
So that you be always with me
That I may from your presence glean

I ask that within my heart lord
Your hand do its binding
So that there I might keep you lord
To be found your word always minding

I ask you do the darning
When I become weak and worn
May your hand gently repair
When my fabric lord is torn

I pray dear lord be the double stitch
That holds my life together
So that when at last this life I leave
I will live with you forever

Lord help me to allow your spirit
To own each fiber of thread
That is woven and sewn into my life
Till that day my body is dead

Take this piece of linen lord
Unworthy as it may be
Weave into it,sew into it and within every stitch
I pray your presence be

I ask that your skillful hands my Lord
Tenderly operate the loom
And as the cloth is made
I pray it is by you consumed

Time
From the tomorrow we hope to come
We can never borrow time
And from its minutes we cannot take
From the day that lays behind

Each day given holds its own
A measured amount of alloted hours
We cannot add or detract from one
This task is not within our power

We only have what time is given
There is no time within the past
And the time that is yet to come
Is fleeting quickly and will not last

The time now that we posses
Is the greatest gift we have been given
It cannot be bought with gold or silver
And it's value cannot be written

Will you spend your time as a fool will do
Upon temporary and fleeing pleasure
Or will you spend it on things eternal
And lay up for yourself  in heaven , treasure

Help Me Lord To Love
Help me lord to love
Just as you loved me
Help me lord to pray
For others earnestly
Help me lord to encourage
Each one in his task
Help me lord to admonish
The faults that each one has
Help me lord to greet
Each one with a kiss
Help me lord to serve
For even you did this
Help me lord to teach
So that others may learn
Help me lord to accept
That I may show no scorn
Help me lord to honor
Those for whom you died
Help me to bear another's burdens
As I walk with him side by side
Help me lord to forgive
Just as you forgave
Help me lord to submit
To love be a slave
Help me lord to be devoted
To each may I show concern
Help me lord to love
Help me lord to learn
The rain is falling this morning
It is proof of Gods unending love
Sent down from the portals of heaven
That land that is set above

The grass on the ground layed dry
Turning brown from the beating sun
But the grass will again be green
Before its time is done

God himself has sent this blessing
To the earth to nourish and cool
It is a blessing upon each and all
Both the believer and the fool

I watch as the raindrops fall
And crash rapidly into the ground
It is music unto my ear
To me , such a beautiful sound

I can feel the raindrops kiss
Of comfort upon my skin
And as by the rain I am loved
I am kissed again and again

Thank you so much Lord
For this blessing you have sent this morning
This precious blessing of rain
That is the face of the earth adorning
The paths that once my feet
As a child upon did trod
Are covered now by time
And natures earthen sod

No more do they lead
To that place of many dreams
No more grand adventures
Now only grown up things

It seems not that long ago
That I walked on childhoods trail
But the days have quickly passed
And now I am old and frail

I hold my memories dear
Though I can never go back
To the days when I was young
And walked a childhoods path

What Makes A House A Home
The home in which I grew
Where I was taught to do that which I should
Was held together by love
And everything that's good

It's floors were supported strong
By tenderness and caring
And it's roof was held in place
By the gentle act of sharing

It's walls stood strong and firm
Never were they shaken
Strength is gained by what you give
Not by what you have taken

A home is so much more
Than wood and nails and stone
It is made of truth, love, caring and sharing
These things , they make a house a home

Our Soul
What is it within us
This thing that makes us whole
It is what we are inside
Within us is our soul

It is our spirit
Gods breath of life inside
Breathed into us by the creator
That we might be alive

Our soul will live forever
Dwell through eternity
Will it be in hell
Or our home be heavenly

When death at last has come
And your soul is released
Will you dwell in eternal torment
Or will you be at peace

Choose this very moment
Christ the risen Lord
That your soul may be at peace
When death knocks upon your door
Never have I seen
The beauty beyond heavens gate
But still I imagine
While in this life I wait

I know there is such beauty
In heaven I shall see
God has promised in his word
There is a mansion there for me

Streets of gold and precious pearls
These things they will abound
But I look forward in anticipation
To the peace that only there is found

So it is with a happy heart
And excitement that I wait
For the day that I shall see
The beauty beyond heavens gate

Loved ones there mine eyes shall see
In bodies made anew
Singing praises unto God
Beyond the gate where all is new

Time Passes
Time it can't be seen
It travels as the wind
One moment it is upon you
Then it is gone again

Time it glides so freely
As on life's rails it rolls on by
It moves as sound so quickly
As it passes through our lives

Then the day is quickly come
When time for you is stopped
You find that day has come upon you
Though you had hoped it not

Our time on earth is but a vapor
It is seen then it is gone
Our bodies then laid to rest
But time, it travels on

As time goes on it is bringing
After all life's bitter tears
A time when a thousand shall be as a day
And a day as a thousand years

So place your faith in Christ
Let Jesus rest your mind
For in your home in heaven
There is no such thing as time

Forgive Me
If today I speak
A word that is unkind
I ask that you forgive
Because my thought was blind

If I do not help
When I see you are in need
I ask that you forgive
For this from you I plead

If I see you shed a tear
Which I help you not to dry
I ask that you forgive
If I walk on by

If I speak slanderous words
About you that are not true
I ask that you forgive
That I spoke lies of you

If I cause you pain
And sorrow within your heart
I ask that you forgive
That I hurt that tender part

Whatever I do this day
That hurts another's soul
I ask that you forgive
That I might learn and grow

I do these things each day
And hurt my fellow man
I ask the question why
For I do not understand

Knowing that as such
As I have done to the least of these
I have done it Lord
Done it unto thee

Matthew 25:40
Have I missed the quiet of morning
When the sun begins to rise
And cast its golden light
Across an  endless azure sky

Have I missed the sweetened scent
Of freshly fallen rain
As it falls to the earth from heaven
And nourishes the golden grain

Have I never seen the singer
Have I never heard the song
Of the birds as they preform
Because I to quickly move along

Never does the flowers fragrance
Catch my imagination
Am I much to busy
For such an infatuation

Have I missed the lights of heaven
When the light of day is past
Because of worrying about tomorrow
Am I moving much to fast

We each should stop and take more time
As we travel this earthen sod
To look and see all natures beauty
Be still and know that He is God

Fall Is Coming
In these long hot days of summer
The heat , it beats me down
As the ground it lies cracked and dry
And the grass is dead and brown

The rays of the summer sun
Reach down and touch the earth
Causing me to seek the shade of a tree
Knowing now its worth

Summer is also a beautiful time
As we are warmed by the light of the sun
But I count the days of summer away
Until at last the summer is done

Then, that season for which I yearn
That season which nature in her time will call
And I with anticipation await
With joy, the arrival of fall
We are born into this world
We laugh we breathe we cry
Then in the span of a few short years
Within a grave we lie

Life comes to us so quickly
As God gives to us his living breath
Then just as quickly we are gone
And our heart is stilled in death

We go to sleep each night
As visions and dreams of life fill our head
Never thinking we shall no more rise
For in the morning we are dead

Where will our life take us?
What treasure will we  reap?
Will our souls reward be hell?
Or eternity in heaven sweet.

Wind
The wind has for ages blown
Across the earths vast face
Carrying rain and snow and clouds
To every earthen place

It makes the mighty oak to bend
Gently carries the butterfly
And unseen fills that great vast space
Between the earth and azure sky

The wind causes leaves to dance
It makes the prairies  grass to sway
It travels when and where it wants
Be it night or day

It silently climbs the snowy mountains high
And walks through the emerald valleys low
Unseen by the human eye
Wind is present everywhere you go

The wind is cool upon the skin
Of a man who works and sweats
A sweet relief from the heat
When skin and wind have met

It causes ocean waves to rise
Then to crash upon the shore
It causes the windmills blade to turn
To bring up water never tasted before

It may be felt as a gentle hand
Or it may blow so very strong
It may come at a moments notice
Then just as quickly it is gone

It carries ships across the sea
As the sails of the ship harness its power
And it will bring to a thirsty land
A long awaited springtime shower

The wind will sometimes speak to you
With voices from another time
If you will only stop to hear
As around you it runs  and climbs

Spirits from long ago
Ride upon the wind
Seeking to tell their olden story
Will you listen and be a friend

The wind forever remains unseen and free
Uncaptured or held by human hand
And will continue on its eternal journey
Forever over ocean , sky and land

Each breath we  breathe and each word we speak
Even our soul is forever captured by what we cannot see
And carried forth into the future
To remain for all of eternity

Procrastination
Our lives are quietly passing
Upon this earth that quickly spins
The things we planned to do today
Will we ever have the chance to do again?

We have no words but what we speak
We only posses what we at this moment see
Quietly passing, quickly spinning
Both are true for you and me

The thoughts you had of things to say
In that letter you said you would write
But you are busy and tired now
How quickly the day has turned to night

You say tomorrows sun soon will rise
And give to me another chance
But for many tomorrows sun is never seen
Will you be the one to miss the dance

I'll stop by to visit you
This you tell a friend
Then evening comes and day is gone
And you find you have cancelled once again

Life grows shorter with each breath taken
Each day we are drawn closer to our mortal end
Do today all you had planned
Write and visit your family and friends

For death comes to soon and unannounced
And closes life's open door
Then you can no more speak or write
To friends or loved ones from that distant shore

Death may come first to you
Or to the one that you hold dear
It may be you who cannot speak
Or they that cannot hear

What Is A Photograph Worth
What is a photograph worth
With its edges bent and worn
Faded and yellowed with age
A picture that is cracked and worn

An image of a moment so dear
A smile in a second of time
The comfort of a loved ones face
That you shall never more find

Is the face upon your photograph
Worth more than all earthly gain
An image of one you loved so dear
One who now in a grave is lain

What is this little squares value
To pay, what is the price
Is there an amount or profit
That for its value would suffice

Some might offer you gold
For an image your finger can touch
Would you even then refuse
And find no hope in such

Does the image your eyes now mirror
Hold more value than the earth could bring forth
Tha many stories and memories so dear
Tell me, what is a photograph worth

How do I remove
The images in my mind
Of the things that I have seen
To which I should have been blind

Scenes to which my eyes
By my lustful thoughts were drawn
Seem to be forever there engrained
Though I wish that they were gone

Will I ever forget
Once my eyes have seen
An image I wished I had not
Or a thought within a dream

Can the scene not be removed
Once through the eye it enters in
Or is it hidden there forever
To only tempt me once again

For once the eye beholds
It will store in memory
And the image will there remain
For good or agony

O how I wish my eyes
To these scenes had been blind
For then I would not carry
The burden of this kind

When I look into the mirror
And I stare into my eyes
Is it me I really see?
Or just a man in a disguise

The mirror shows my reflection
The way I look physically
But it cannot show to you
The state I am in spiritually

The mirror it cannot reflect
The heaviness of my heart
Or the pain it feels within
As if pierced by a sharpened dart

The mirror does not reveal to you
The sadness that abides within
Or the absence of joy that did exist
Will I find it ever again?

The mirror is a great deceiver
For it shows only the outer shell
Where all seems as it should
While hiding the inner hell

Money Matters
I believe that this life
Is nothing but a sham
Nothing you do really matters
And no one really gives a ****

I had always believed the words
Written upon life's final pages
Would be so much different than the ones I read
Not leave me fighting to escape the cages

It seems I am always fighting
To tie together the ends
But each time they seem to be bound
Something unseen loosens them again

My heart inside is weighted and heavy
I tire of being left behind
The devils demons they dance
Laughing at me within my mind

No More Time
Seconds to minutes to hours
They come and they disappear
Then as quickly as a shooting star
We have passed away a year

We may have days before us
But soon they will be left behind
And become a year now gone
That we shall no more find

Time is spent with each breath we take
Time that is never regained
As we spend do we spend it wisely
Or do we waste it just the same

Live your life fully each day
Spend with joy your alloted time
You know not how much you have
Just as I do not know mine

The clock counts away the moments
As they give themselves away
Then the clock it to soon stops
And we lay still within the grave

Remembering
O how quickly hastens time
The days they turn to years
Like a shooting star across the sky
Then quickly disappears

Moments passed become remembered
Growing sweeter with the time
Just as grapes put to the lips
Taster sweeter from the wine

Time now gone becomes more precious
Valued more than gold or money
Scenes held so dear remain unchanged
Just as the taste of the long kept honey

Then comes the hour our breath is faded
And our eyes no longer see
The memories we held so dear in life
Are then given up to eternity

No more seen and no more known
Just as times alloted wages
Our memory is taken to the grave
And there we are given to the ages

Seeing Through The Grey
Looking out across the emerald valley
That today lies hidden under a shroud of grey
I wish for the sun to raise its head
And lift this shroud away

The beauty that hangs from heavens floor
It is concealed from my eye
Yet I know that the blue above
Still paints the shielded sky

The Forrest rest low in the valley far
Though it is but a ghost unseen
It lies painted by the masters hand
In shades of brown and green

There is also beauty in the grey
Though it is harder seen
While looking through the heavy fog
Still there lies the blue and green

The cold grey mist causes me to ponder
The things I hold the dearest
Sometimes it is through the grey
That I can see my life the clearest

This World Is Not My Home
Sin can never reach
Up to heavens priceless worth
It is condemned forever
To live upon this earth

Sin can never touch
The heights where heavens bound
It can only rise so high
Then falls back to the ground

Never can it climb
From this world to which it's chained
It can never leave
So here it will remain

Sin binds us to this world
Upon which the devil freely roams
Creating pain and hurt and sorrow
In the realm he calls his own

It is and always will be
Satan and his demons din
Since it has no place to go
This world will always be ruled by sin

But this world here is not my home
By the chain of sin I am not bound
The chain was broken I am set free
When the blood of Christ fell to the ground

He gave his life that I might live
Both crucified and risen
And when I reach where sin cannot
I will be safe at home in heaven

Things
Why is it we strive so hard
To increase our earthly possessions
We see we want we buy
It seems to be an obsession

Of the many things we have
How many of them do we truly need
Do we just try to obtain
To satisfy our greed

These many things we own
They may glitter they may shine
But soon they lose their luster
As quickly turns the hands of time

Then we become dissatisfied
With the previous things we got
And seek to fill that empty place
With some new thing we've  bought

The years they pass, time comes and goes
We are surrounded by our wealth
But among the many things we own
We find no love no family no health

To late we discover we have laid up treasure
Treasure of an earthly kind
Of things that have no meaning
How could we have been so blind
