Moral Standard
Within our nation today
Political correctness says no moral standard exist
As a Christian I say it does
But this truth the world resist

If there is no moral standard
And no gauge of right or wrong
Is it "Do whatever you wish"?
As through life you travel on

Set your own height of your acceptance
Your own level of integrity
What it be it does not matter
Or even if it contains honesty

It is so sad for our society
And a detriment to our culture
That so many believe in no moral standard
What then will be our future?

I obey the Ten Commandments
And for my wrongs only I am liable
The truth is written for all to see
Our moral standard is set by the Bible

To Touch a Leaf
O what heights you have reached
Green  little Leaf
But soon the seasons change
And you will fall to me

Now, I cannot touch you
I can only look and see
It is sad that you must die
Before you will come to me

You know not I watch
In the summers breeze I have seen you dance
There high upon your stage
You sway and you prance

You posses such beauty
Up there close to heavens stars
Just a simple little Leaf
But I love you as you are

I want to hold you , Leaf
But out of reach you reside
I long to gently touch you
Before it is you die.

Early Morning Woodland
In some early mornings dawn
When father time has brought the fall
Have you walked among the hardwoods
And below the oaks so tall

Have you stepped upon the leaves
Of orange and red and brown
Have you felt the breeze so cool
That gently brings them down

Have you heard the morning chatter
Of squirrels in the wind
And the chorus of a cardinal
As the day begins

Have you watched as the sun
Turns the sky from dark to blue
Or the honking sound of geese
As overhead they flew

There is such beauty in a woodland
On a quiet cool fall morning
A perfect place to be
A place to be returning
Just thinking about and anticipating the arrival of Fall,
"Thank you Lord for the changes in the seasons".

One of Gods Children
I watch you from a distance
Though you know not I see
And as I watch I wonder
What must your story be

I can see some truths about you
But they are very few
I have more questions than answers
As I wonder about you

I know you are someones daughter
Could you be a mother
Do you have a sister
Or maybe even a brother

I know you had a father
I ask"Did he love you true"
Who might your mother be
And did she care for you

Where did you once live
Did you have a home
Do you have anyone
Or do you live life alone

Is it your choice to live alone
Is there no one with which to share
Do you have someone to love you
And someone for which you care

When did your journey start
Were you loved when it began
Do you have any hope today
Or do you just wish that life would end

No, I do not know you
Your joys or your sorrows
But I wonder do you know
There is hope for tomorrow

To me you are a mystery
Only God knows your glory
When I see you I wonder
But God knows your story
I wrote this poem today as I sat at a local park having some quiet time and a cup of coffee. I noticed a woman under the pavilion who appeared to be  homeless. I watched her for a while ,then she gathered up her belongings ,put them into a bag and walked away. As I sat there watching her these thoughts came to me and I wondered, What is your story ?

HAPPY 50th BIRTHDAY ROBERT
50 years have past
Those days now are faded
The sunshine of my years
Has now become shaded

50 years ago yet only yesterday
That I was a little boy
Running around the old home place
With a heart full of joy

50 years of memories
O ,the many faces I have known
A few here still remain
But many cherished now are gone

50 years have come my way
And 50 years have left
Looking back across the bridge of time
I see fading images of myself

How quickly from a boy I grew
Growing up to become a man
Given the choice if I had my way
How I would love to be a boy again

Spending my days as a soldier
Sometimes a cowboy true
Fishing for crawdads down at the creek
Under the azure blue

50 years past seems so long
But its really only a breath ago
Like the waters of a mighty river
How quickly the waters of time do flow

50 years of blessings
To me God has given
So many blessings undeserved
In this 50 years of living

This 50 years of life I have lived
Has been filled with tears and smiles and glory
All I have known and seen and done
Are written upon the heart of my 50 year story.

The Writing of a Poem
The touching of pen to paper
The writing of the word
The sound of the flowing ink
By the readers ear is heard

Thoughts are written down
Upon a pages empty lines
To be forever kept
Till the end of time

The stories they are many
For there are many hands that write
The words travel from mind to pen
As the writer puts the words to flight

Words are written to be enjoyed
Through the readers eyes
To lift his thoughts up higher
Far beyond the azure skies

Books are an adventure to write
As along with the characters you join
But writing has no pleasure
Such as the writing of a poem

In Harmony
A song birds song drifts into my ears
As the valley green sings to my eyes
The music from the bird is clear
As clear as is the valleys skies
The gentle hum of the rain is heard
As the lighting screams into my eyes
The music from the rain brings dreams
And the lighting dances in my sight
A coyotes howl rings in my hearing
And a mountains tune I can see
The coyotes song is a lonely rhyme
But the mountains verse speaks mystery
An oceans wave plays a gentle chord
While the far horizon lies in distant days
The oceans wave makes a peaceful sound
While the music of the horizon in silence lays
All the music of nature that's heard
And all the peaceful sights of nature you see
Each work together in harmonious tune
Playing music in perfect harmony

What You Make of It
Each day individually ,
And the days that constitute the span
of your life,
Become what you decide they will be,
What you determine to make of them,
Each one forming and taking shape,
Into what you envision for each moment,
Of each day,
Of your entire life.

A Man, A King
Once there walked among men a man
Upon the face of earth
He spoke to each man he met
And told them of their worth

He told all men with listening ear
Turn from sin and come to me
Do not be a slave to fear
Come, I will set you free

He told all men the truth of life
Come unto me I am the way
Wait not for tommorows light
For tommorow may not come your way

This man who spoke invited all
Come and grace receive
A common man yet a king
This man from Galilee

Squirrels
While watching people I realized
That folks are a lot like squirrels
They don't pay much attention at all
To what's going on in their world

They scurry about to and fro
Doing what it is they do
Digging holes and burying nuts
A lot like me and you

They run aimlessly upon their way
Never looking both ways to cross the street
I guess that's why we see so many
Dead squirrels at our feet

Run to here and scurry to there
He lives within his own little world
Yep, watching people I realize
Folks are a lot like squirrels

WHY
When will my
                Weakness become strength,
How do       I become stronger than my

Yearning      for the peace that

A Man Called Norman
What image fills your vision
When you look upon a fellow man
Is it his need you see
Do you extend a helping hand

Do you see the burdens
He carries hidden within his heart
The hurts that he posses
The pain of poisoned darts

His troubles and his trials
To others are unknown
But aren't the scars he bears
The image of your own

Judge not your fellow man
But seek to be to him a friend
For you know not his story
So compassion to him lend

Companions
My best companions come in twos
Starting with my own two feet
They carry me each day I am given
Too the task that I must meet

Two more friends of mine
Are my two able hands
They help me do my work
While my two legs help me stand

My two eyes let me see
The light of the morning sun
While these two arms of mine
Help my task to get done

With my two ears I can hear
The sounds of the day
My fingers of ten help me count
The hours to work away

With the many task before me
And work that never ends
Sometimes it seems to me
That I am my own best friend

Natures Sounds
I long to hear the sounds
Of nature uninterrupted
Heard pure and clean and clear
By mankind not corrupted

I long to hear the waterfall
Flowing down the mountains face
To hear the rushing water crash
By no unatural sound disgraced

To hear the gentle winds
Blowing through the mighty pines
Untouched by unatural sounds
Be they yours or mine

To hear the falling of the rain
Colliding with the thirsty ground
The thunder as it roars
No hint of man made sound

To hear the silence of the night
That is ruled by star and moon
The sound of the great abyss
Peace it's only tune

To hear the choir of the feathered singers
Singing their beautiful hymns
Free of outside sounds
From their stage high upon a limb

I long to hear only the sounds
Of the nature that God created
But everywhere I go it seems
They have by the sounds of men been permeated

O Wouldent it be a joy to hear
Natures voice pure and true
With no sound made by man
To tarnish the sound or view

The Limit of Gods Love
Gods love has no border
It is an ocean with no shore
A universe with no ending
An opening with no door

It has no edge to mark
No line where its complete
It is an endless depth
It has no bounds to keep

No wall can hold it back
No river is too wide
Gods love is always reaching
Even through the tears you've cried

Forever it carries on
Into the great abyss
Never has man known
A love such as this

Cherish Always
It seems life is always changing
Taking the things we know
Like a mighty mountains river
As over the rocks it flows

We take so oft for granted
The ones we love and cherish
Then only realize what we possessed
When they move away or perish

Then we are left without them
In their place is left a void
Our eyes now filled with tears
And sadness replaces joy

Life is ever changing
Show those you love you care
For someday the day may come
When they are no longer there

My Memories
Treasured memories never fade
They are not dimmed by the span of time
Every detail is forever etched
Upon the thoughts of the recalling mind

Precious memories held so dear
That never fade nor fail
They are a pathway to my past
An old loved and familiar trail

That leads me back to my yesterday's
When my heart yearns to return once more
Back to the place where the memory was born
A cherished place I knew before

Within my memories live those I love
In images as clear as a crystal stone
I keep them hidden inside my heart
These treasured memories that are my own.

Bottled Tears
Lord, is it true
You keep the tears I have shed
The ones that fall so heavy
Like the precious blood you bled

Do you keep a count
Of each lonely sad lament
A record written down
Of each feeble plea I've sent

Lord, is it true
You know each mornful wail
Every thought of sadness
Every heart wrenching tale

Lord, I know it is true
Written in the 56:8 of Paslm
Not one tear has ever escaped
The healing of your balm.

Heavens Door
I think the sky above
Is the bottom of heavens floor
And if this thought is true
Where is heavens door?

Is heavens door unseen?
By the eyes of mortal men
And if this is true
How do we enter in?

God who lives in heaven
Made for man a way
That we could enter through
And reside with him someday

Heavens door exist
Though not in common form
It is Christ the son of God
Who was of a ****** born

Upon a cross Christ died
But rose to life again
And he became the door
Through which to heaven we may enter in

Forgiveness he offers from sin
To all not just a few
If we will accept, believe and repent
He becomes the door we enter through

No opening is there anywhere
No wooden door nor frame
Just a simple faith and belief
In Jesus precious name.

Reaching Up
Have you ever taken notice
Of the direction that nature reaches
In this there must be a lesson
That Gods creation teaches

Look at a mountains peak
It reaches so very high
Up through the ghostly clouds
As if to touch the sky

Look at the pine trees tall
Swaying within the wind
Seeking to grasp a star
As a way to lift and ascend

A flower within a tiny seed
Grows up from the darkened soil
Showing forth great majesty
While reaching up with strain and toil

The songbirds sing their songs of praise
While flying up too the highest limb
Seeking up just as the tree
Hopeing to catch a glimpse of Him?

It seems that Gods creation
Within a world that is so abrupt
Is teaching life's only true meaning
And is always reaching UP.

I wrote this poem last week while my wife and I were on vacation in Colorado . As I looked upon the mountains and the forrest this is the thought that came to me. Shouldent we all be looking , reaching , seeking Up.
Hope you like it

Christ Lives
Christ the living saviour
Once died upon the cross
He willingly gave his life
For men like us , Lost

He was tortured , beaten, mocked
Then nailed upon the tree
This great pain he endured
For men like you and me

Upon the cross he hung
A spear ****** into his side
Father please forgive them
Are words our saviour cried

A crown of painful thorns
Was pressed upon his head
His blood flowed down his body
Till the saviour at last was dead

A thief hung on his left
A thief hung on his right
When Christ gave up the ghost
The day was turned to night

Placed into a borrowed tomb
His body laid as if it were froze
Then just as he had promised
On the third day he arose

With victory over death
He came forth from the grave
With victory over death
That men through faith in him be saved

He showed himself to many
Then to heaven he did ascend
An angel said to those present
This same Christ you shall see again

To the earth he shall return
The words written they are true
Christ he is coming back
For men like me and you

Between The Two
Between the two stood the one
At the place of the skull upon a hill
And the shadow it cast down over man
Across the earth lingers still

Blood stained and spike pierced beams
Held the teacher till he died
Looking up some only laughed
Others bowed their head and cried

On the tree this precious son
Who some by choice never knew
Prayed"Father please forgive them,
For they know not what they do"

Messiah sacrificed on those rugged beams
In three days to rise again
The way the life the truth
An atonement for our sin

When the meaning of the tree is told
My ears attend and receive
I can scarce conceive the cost
And it's meaning to you and me

Behind my eyes I hold these thoughts
Concerning the tree to which Jesus went
The lonely tree of Golgothas Hill
Where hung the saviour from heaven sent

Our sins destroyed life now given
By the blood of one who was only good
He hung in my place where I should have hung
Upon a cross made of wood

Our Stories
From old to new
From new to old
Over the ages
Different stories told

Through song, through story
Through poems unfold
The victories and the sorrows
Of a life untold

Some are written
For all to see
Others kept away
For ones heart to keep

Those stories, those songs
The poems all  tell
The feelings and emotions
Hidden within ourselves

COME UNTO ME,
I never move nor sway
I remain the same
Each tomorrow and today
ALL YE THAT LABOR AND ARE,
Ragged and tired and worn
Come, I will cradle you
Just as a babe newborn
HEAVY LADEN AND,
Weak, cast your weakness here
Come lay it at my feet
I will hold you near
I WILL GIVE YOU REST,
From all your daily strife
Come, I will give you comfort
I will give you life.

The Masters Hand
Have you ever looked upon and contemplated
The work of a masters hand
Of a beautifully painted landscape
With an azure sky above the land

A mighty wave of the sea
As it breaks upon a rocky shore
Then rushes back to the ocean again
To rise and return to crash once more

A majestic mountain crowned in white
Casting its shadow low
Upon the silent emerald valley
Where the giant pine trees grow

If ever you have observed nature
Mountains and oceans and trees that stand
Then friend you have seen the beauty
Of the work of THE MASTERS HAND

How Much Longer Lord
As I look at the world around me
It's present and its past
I ask of you this question Lord
How much longer can we last

Unending pain and hurts
Multiple miseries and dispair
No matter what direction I look
And I see sickness everywhere

I watch and see mankind seeking
Shelter from the calamity
If just a temporary place to hide
From the worlds disparity

Some think they have found the answer
But in reality a peace that's only temporary
Turning from the only Son of God
Believing his help is not necessary

How many more tears must fall
How much more blood to be shed
Before we realize the truth
Of the words of the Christ who bled

How many more men must die
At the hands of mankinds wars
And how long will men still seek
The lies behind the devils doors

Our world is a darkened place
As the devil tempts and tricks
And he laughs when we are splintered
Like so many dried and broken sticks

You are our saviour Lord
In a world of darkness , a light
Our only way to safety
As we continue our earthly plight

We cry out to you Lord Jesus
Help us our burdens to carry
Please come quickly Lord
How much longer will you tarry?
Death opens
Eternity enters
Angels watch
Time ceases
Home welcomes

Never Alone
I remember a time now past
When I was young and strong
Of  going to a quiet peaceful wood
And walking there alone

Among the mighty trees of oak
That gently swayed in the wind
Watching a leaf float down the creek
And then disappear around the bend

Listening to a song so pleasant
Being sung by a singer dressed in feathers
His stage a branch made of wood
In a tree old and aged and weathered

In my memory those days are treasured
Of walking upon the woods hidden sod
Finding I never was there alone
For in the wood walked also God

For My Moma On Her Birthday
Hi there Moma
It's your one and only son
How are things in heaven
Are you having a lot of fun

All here is good Moma
Except I guess you know
We get a little sad sometime
Because you had to go

We think about you often
Well, really all the time
And how good things must be
Now that you are fine

Today's your birthday Moma
Are you going to celebrate
With Jesus and everyone
Did Grandma bake you a cake

I won't keep you long Moma
On this your special day
I just wanted to write
And tell you
Happy Birthday!

I wrote this in remembrance of my beautiful mother who now calls heaven home and Jesus her neighbor. I love you Moma as much today as I did when you were here. I cannot wait to see you.
This world was made a better place on Feb 21 1945 and then you left for that perfect place on June 27 2005
For 63 years your smile brought comfort to all who were blessed to have known you.
Love you Moma
Your number one son

Unthankful
I am so unthankful
Lord within my heart
I don't mean to be
But Lord please help me start

Help me Lord be thankful
For all I have received
You have given me much
Beyond my ability to conceive

From the sunrise in the morning
Till the moon shows its light
Your blessings are daily shown
Help my eyes to have the sight

Have mercy on me Lord
For my forgetfulness
I ask my heart be filled
My Lord, with thankfulness
Many a night have I gazed
Looking up from a mountain high
Admiring the stars of heaven
That hang like candles in the sky

Each star specifically placed
Just where in the heavens it should be
Shining like a friendly campfire
There to help guide you and me

The skies of the north the south the east the west
All are filled with light
And at each star I am amazed
At how they shine so bright

The Big Trail Boss knew what he was doing
When he created the stars
And placed them out of the reach of man
In a place so very far

To shine as he intended
Untouched by human hand
To guide us through the great open prairie of heaven
When we journey home to the promised land

Sun
Why do you hide yourself
Keeping your rays of warmth concealed
How I long for your breaking forth
Your glory once more revealed

To long you have hidden unseen
Behind the curtain of cold and gray
Break Forth Break  Forth Break Forth I plead
Break Forth with light of day

All I touch to my touch is cold
The trees they shiver within the wind
All of nature that breathes is hidden
Waiting for you to perform again

The gray cold curtain has hung low to long
I pine for it to rise
Revealing the performer upon the stage
Majestically lifting up into the sky

RLB
Longing for the sun to shine.
Since the day of the first created man
When the initial breath of life was given
The bell of time has continually rang
For the ones now gone and those still living

One by one echo the rings
Deep within the ears of living men
Then comes the moment they are no more heard
For the bell has stopped to ring not again

Each time the bell  of time rings out
That ring is lost forevermore
Becoming just an echo in the past
A dying ring that sounds no more

Each living soul hears the bell
And each ring we hear we claim as mine
All men past and present and those to come
Are the ones for whom tolls the bell of time

REMEMBERED
How many different voices will speak
What truths will there be spoken
Over my body as it lie still in death
When my soul at last has broken

Will there be words of kindness shared
Of a deed that once I wrought
To one who was then a stranger
Some soul that I knew not

Will there be words of remembrance
Of a once kindly offered smile
Given to one to encourage
As they travelled a long hard mile

Will there be words of sadness heard
At the loss of a cherished friend
One who once was loved
One they wish to love again

From deep within the heart
Will the voices speak sincere
Followed by the gentle falling
Of a grief weighted tear

The words the voices give
I hope to you will tell
The story of a friend called true
And the memories of a life lived well

Today's Promise
Yesterday now is passed
It silently rest behind
All of it that now remains
Are the memories within my mind

Precious memories that I recall
Of precious friends and loved ones dear
They fill my thoughts of yesterday
My memories hold them near

It is hard to understand why time
So quickly passes by
Takes the ones we dearly love
And leaves us with tear dimmed eye

Yet I look to tomorrow in faith
Holding to the promise that Jesus told
You shall meet those you love again
In heaven on streets of gold

Signs Of Hope
Hope is in the rising sun
On a frozen winters day
Giving to you reassurance
That summer is on its way

Hope is in the thundering clouds
To your ears a fresh refrain
Bringing to a dry cracked earth
The liquid of silver rain

Hope is the song of a robin
Joyfully singing in the morning dawn
A chorus of"There is no need to worry,
For child you are my very own"

Hope is wrapped in faith
The promise of things unseen
Kept within our heart
Peaceful,secure , serene.

To Touch One You Love
At the time we never give much thought
To folks we touch with our hands
We put our arms around them
Then we take it back again

In a quickly passing moment
Our hands will touch the ones we cherish
Then just as quickly as we feel them
The touch we gave will perish

Time, it passes soon upon the wind
And those we love we now long to touch
We wish once more to feel them here
Knowing now it meant so much

Treasure the way a loved one feels
Cherish them each passing day
Hug them close and hold their hand
And you will have a memory made

Why Do I Not
I strive each day , but too many times I find myself not treating my fellow man the way I want him to treat me.Wether that person is aware of my act or speech or not.Help me Lord to treat others always as I myself want to be treated.

Why do I not treat others
The way I wish to be treated
Why do I not lift up
A friend who seems defeated

Why do I not forgive
Though forgiveness from you is expected
Why do I turn from you
And leave you feeling rejected

Why do I not share with you
The blessings I receive
Why do I speak words to you
That you should not believe

Why do I not show compassion
To the poor the sick the old
Why do I not treat others
In the way that JESUS told

Help me Lord Jesus to  always do unto others as I would have others do unto me,
Amen
