A shared free fall:
definition
it's when you're in a room swimming with a sea of humanity
the doors are closed, and you can't breathe
but neither can the person sitting next to you...
still some of them/they still smile at you
when you tell them their baby is cute
even though it's just wiped graham crackers
on the book you're reading
n' you're all in the same boat
Yeah, you're just trying to stay afloat...
waiting for your name to be called
Everyone is trying not to let fear take them down
because their bottom has dropped out
a free fall
like a broken cable
in an elevator shaft
you wonder if you're the only one
that feels this way
until you glance over at the very young girl
sitting next to you
her face is like stone
n' her eyes look dark/they're black as coal/
like the've seen too much of the coldness in this world..
suddenly you're not thinking about your bottom that's dropped out...
n' you offer her your warm blanket
you brought
in case you got cold.
