When i was just a little girl
I sat on momma's knee
She said don't play
with broken things
She said to let them be.
But when I got some older
I had a favorite toy,
I got cut, we threw it out
It had to be destroyed

-chorus-
Child, don't play with broken things
For they have been misused,
Girl don't play with broken things
They have been abused.

Later on I found a thing
Don't play with human hearts,
They will ache and they will break
They will come apart.
Once you play with broken things
There will be distress,
They will trick, they can't be fixed
Your life will be a MESS.

-chorus-

There are people you will meet
They may be right next door
They'll beguile, but watch out child,
You cannot restore.
They may shock or wound you,
They may cut and tear,
They will burn, you'd better learn,
You cannot repair!

-chorus-

Child, don't play with broken things
They're not birds with broken wings
(Repeat 3X)

Child... don't play!

This is a cautionary piece.
So many people think that they
Can "fix" others... it's for
Professional people...
Preferably psychiatric or
Spiritual counselors.
