After all the years of devotion
and the children I did give him
he tells me that he loves me
yet he still beats me

After all the promises
and the tears he sheds to me
give it a day or two
and again he will beat me

I did try to tell my parents
tried to tell them that I was not happy
but he is always by my side
with ears pricked letting nothing slide

I have thought of ways to escape
try to get away from his brutal touch
but he tells me, he loves me
yet still he beats me

He comes home late nearly every night
with blood on his collar, no not lipstick
then he beats on me
and I wonder why a married the ******* *****
