I feel asphalt beneath my feet-
Flat and black.
Microscopic ridges longing
For rough pearly sand,
Sharp golden grass
Ask if black never appears in nature
Except as an absence.
Past tense humanity
They always say
"Live for the now"
How can I understand time
If I can't understand asphalt?
