Oh, shadow, I will keep thee safe,
For thou art the weaker power,
And I will stand between you and East,
At least til noon time hour.
Then turn slowly to the west,
So that I may shield your eyes,
From the burning, painful sight,
Of a sun who brightly dies.
And be turned away from you,
At any given time or slant,
To offer you protection from,
Things I see, you can't.
