I can hear their voices
Bewildered, in chaos
No more laughter, no more cajoling
My turn to sneer.

A lover has come
Poor soul, how they mock him
How they tease him
But, they wouldn’t dare tell him.

Go on find me!
I urge them
My lover waits
Grows impatient by the minute.

Pitiful being
He doesn’t feel
He doesn’t understand
My heart belongs to someone else.

My back aches
My heart hurts more
Ironies of life
Unfair, unjust!

Here I am trapped with him
When I should be with you
Yet, how would you know?
You have chosen another.

Frantic footsteps approaching
Angry, worried whisperings
Searching for me
I can only smile bitterly.

Go on find me!
Burn this place if you please!
Warm liquid in my eyes
My soul cries.

Life barbarism!
Man selects his woman as he desires
A woman waits to be seen
Why can’t a woman walk up to the man she pleases?

Easy talk below, assurances
Finally he is leaving
But, I won’t budge
Not just yet.

I’m in the solace of my own embrace
Let me dry my tears
That I can be stronger
To crawl out into the world once more.
