Silence in the jungle is a collaborative
With cicadas setting the beat
But it’s not conducted strictly
As intermittently birdsong interrupts
And whilst one wolf whistles
Another elsewhere coos
An orchestra of bird chime
Who each choose their own introduction
No one need wait their turn
Somewhere within the thick the insects percussion
Overwhelms the whistle of the birds up high
Distant hogs crescendo as they near
And with sharp ears coming rain rattles
But once the monkeys make their cure
Their howl is the front man
The only silence here is us
