This incessant dull thud of pain
tries to weaken my resolve
yet I wear it's badge of conduct
no matter how it tries to break my soul

The pain killers try to hold it a bay
but as the pain stops it's just a delay
for this creeping assassin
will wait, then have it's own way

It's daily task is to bring me down
to break what life I have left
it pitches it's tent close to me
reminding me it will never leave

It breaks my sleep
tears down my dreams
is this the way I go
in adjective pain it seems

This is not the first time
that it's cold thin fingers
have reached within me
but it could be the last
