If a battlefield be in the way of the rose
I myself will break ranks
for I can never tread on hope
as she has saved me when in dire jeopardy

This battlefield I call Earth
this unforgiving blue sphere
this is where I live
yet I live in disappointment

How young life is here
how short and fleeting
I hear the drums of doom
without remorse beating

Oh battlefield Earth
poppies to come
but their is no one left
no children to pick some
