you love to get a rise out of me
goad me to distraction
and let out the horrors you know exist inside
why?
do you enjoy the ensuing misery?

I'm your biggest secret
you wanted me to say it
so, now I do
you keep me in the dark pockets of your existence
and take me out to play
when you're all alone
don't you?

once in a while, a moment comes
when you tire of the pattern
you shake things up
(with me inside)
you forget there's still your living toy inside
and it's hard to hold onto corners inside

and later, when your tantrum dies
you realize and remember
by which time
I've had to sweep up once again
all the broken pieces and glue them back together
then it's your turn to pour on the soothing oil of sweet love

I don't know why I hang around
I don't know why I care
I only know I feel alive
even when you shake and rattle me so

so I let out your little secret
that I'm your biggest one!
you do know that love is sometimes not enough.
