Waiting for the day that never comes
At heart I am lowly
My voice is quiet
I ignore offenses
and forgive readily
I would rather be second
To support someone better
For I know who I am
I'm no one special
Society honours the achiever
so it rejected me
Threw me out on the curb
without saying a word
Those who play by the rules
and jump through hoops
to attain money and status
are unreachable to me
They don't see my worth
as a simple human being
To them interaction is a transaction
Each hour of their time is an investment
As long as I kept giving
They kept taking
But the plan all along
was to ditch me when I stopped delivering
And abandon me they did
Now I'm alone
And I see first hand
what it means to fight the system
The system is soulless
The system is beastly
Its rewards are earthly
It seeks the unworthy
I went through puberty
but I never went through normality
Never went to graduation parties
By then I was already "sick"
I always wondered
Why aren't people rebelling?
Why aren't I buying what they're selling,
and how come they keep smiling and laughing?
Just what are they celebrating?
Why aren't I like them?
How can they know so many people
and not be burned like I was?
I chose to know few people
to serve those I knew
They all betrayed me
and I lost faith in humanity
Maybe that's for the best
For as the good book says
Cursed is he who trusts in man
Blessed is he who trusts in God
