I stand and watch
The storms over Galveston Bay
Light up the sky like night into day.

Thunderheads billowing overhead,
Roiling in the darkness, punctuated
Only by distant lightning strikes.

For mere seconds with blinding light,
They flash across the sky in the night.
Thunder boomed like a distant war.

Light begins to leak into the atmosphere.
Holes in the clouds appear here and there.
With the rising sun, all turns to quiet.
