One hundred pennies I held in my hand.
Then I lost one but wasn't too sad.

One whole dollar I held in my hand.
Somehow, I lost it.
Then I was very sad.
Like a child I held my head down.
I was broken.

Then mom spoke.
And a lesson was learned.
While one seems like a lot.

If you lose that one?
You lost a lot.
But with the pennies be thankful for what you got.

It's a lesson learned that I never forgot.
