Love was never mine....

Across the border, on the other side

where luckless lovers meet

stealing glances at each one's eyes

whispered secrets, southern heat

and who knows when the fever hits

swirling through the vines

touching hearts of broken dreams

love was never mine ...

A hound dog calls upon the hill

where locusts swell the fields

ceiling fans lay low and squeal

where mantis pray in make believe

and a lonely buzzard hides it's prey

beyond the blue bird pines

pitted pots of night time lust

wrapped in ochre covered shrines

and luckless lovers curse the skies

where all their dreams were torn

and who knows where the time is lost

or when the time was borne...

Sequined hearts still dance and sing

false smiles against the vine

blinded in the Southern heat

yet love was never mine

love was never mine....
