She asked me to dance
so I led her round the room
she was my bride
and I her groom
we recited vowels in front of strangers
till death do us part
our vows had become ledgers
and so too our hearts
with bands of gold cast around the index
and her body bound in white
we sealed the deal with carnal ***
but in truth, it was what our hearts did write
I do, I do they did chant
no shorter promises ever kept
as the happy couple continued to dance
the congregation wept.
