The Last Dance
He held her close
Cheek to cheek
As it was meant to be
The lights were dim
But they could see
By the flame of love that burned between
They gently swayed
As the music played
Inside their aging minds
Taking a chance
At the last dance
Before the end of time
Holding tight to the love
That pulled at the seams
Of their memories
Unsurpassed
By anything
They even dared to dream
She was the first to go
But only by a minute or so
From their shared hospital bed
He kissed her soft
Then came along
In this, their final dance
