Palace Thine

You can banish their poets

and bend their nibs and break

the lead of their pencils

You can dry their wells and

parch their earth, but you’ll

not drive them to diaspora

You can build your walls and

blacken their eyes, and cast

them your indelible shadow

But they won’t wear no shroud

and they’ll shout out loud because

their spirits have not gone fallow
