Behind facades
the Devil plays cards
drawing an ace from
the hole.

Masks.

we all wear them
some share them
blurring faces.

If you haven't guessed already
said he
knowingly
the Central line is showing me
many masks,

some happy
some sad
some make me glad
that mine is neutral.

another day at the workhouse
which is like the ale house
except there's no beer,

some say it's the poor house
but it can't be
he said
knowingly.
