Jul 2023
the end of the good part
breathes on me
smelling of work
and reward

hammers and tongs
quieting and
extracting
a new man

scattered applause
polite and
exacting
its revenge

I liked myself
right up to then
arc welding
with a pen

cut against
this pattern
and bagged
as scraps
