Through marigold garlands and coiling smoke
the shimmering Ganges sway
Air aromatic heady and spiced
there smiling blue gods play
A sitar leans on the Ashoka tree
and strums a mournful tune
A peacock’s haunting cry calls out
thousand eyes glitt’ring by the moon
