Mom and dad
would drink cappuccinos
at the gas station.
We'd stop on the way
to our place of ritual.
Often, that's as far as we'd go.
They'd let me have a sip
or two,
and I'd burn my tongue
as the desert's breeze
would graze my cheeks.
