Less
never more.
always less.

it's hopeless
when you're homeless
and you hope less,
when you're jobless
and then you're shamed
so you become shameless.

When social security
is denied you
and to the many who are behind you
and polite society maligns you and the
sun shines through the holes in your gut,

it's then you realise that
one door opens
even when a thousand doors
have shut,
so,
you take a step forward
which is better than two steps back,
do a bit of 'casual'
to get yourself on track,

get yourself a friend or two
join a club
start anew,

it's not too late
it never was,

but you won't forget the dinghy
or the stinging of the spray
or the channel, cold at midnight,
feeling lost, but on your way.
