What Is Love
                                       1
A word, is but a word
If there is thought behind a word, now weaning
Then that word, becomes a thoughtful word
And a thoughtful word, has more meaning

And what if that word be love?
And there is passion in that thought
Should not love, come from the heart?
As be a feeling, as it ought

Beauty is there, for the beholder
Is love to be possessed?
Or owned, or controlled
Or free, and natural, and unobsessed?

Restrictions, conformity, and bobeyance
So much pleasure, but to much pain
Caused by unwritten rules
Of loving embraces, traditionally plain

What is natural love?
Is love like nature?
Tempestuous, uncontrolled
Yet calm, free, and beautifully mature

Darkening skies
Innocent, yet foreboding in flight
A flash of lightning, a roll of thunder
A heart pounds, at natures might

There is no malice, or bad intent
Nature follows, it's own natural way
Only interfered with, by the foibles of man
Which can cause, such disarray

                                          2
Wavering feelings of love
Powerful as any ocean
One can live with nature
But uneasily, with powerful emotions

How can one be instinctive?
Instincts that are controlled, and manipulated
How is one meant to react?
In a society, that lives of hypocrisy, unabated

How can one pretend, to know all the answers?
When one is unsure of the questions, one asks
What is love?
Love is a myriad of tasks

Is to be human, to be humane?
A caring nature, that cares to much
What is love?
Without a gentle touch

Is nature, and natural instinctive?
Or is humanity as kind, or unkind as life?
Is life to short, or to long?
Or is life simply to live, as husband, and wife?

Be yourself, or don't be yourself
Contradictory elements, in the love game stakes
Freedom of spirit, of the free spirited
Free self-will, with every packet of cornflakes!

Self-opinionated, or opinions from the self
Self-righteous, or rights of the ID
A Pandora's Box, of attitude, and thought
As infinite, as infinities *****-top lid

                                   3

So what if conformity, is the norm?
Is conformity normal, out of a can?
And is this conformity natural?
And is there nature, in the morals of man?

As one trudges through these obstacles
Mostly dormant, or obscure
What is learnt, what is there to see?
From the tunnel-vision, of the insecure

And what,and where, and when?
The one, wishes to become two
A unity of opinions, and feelings
And joys, and disasters, to misconstrue

And why, when there are tears of joy?
There are also tears so sad?
Two hearts beat as one
In a world gone quite mad

And whilst tears
Trickle down the faces, of the discontent
How can these self-same tears
When happy, trickle for a love content?

What is love?
Slow waters, run deep
What is love?
When one is asleep?

What is love?
When one veers from the norm
What is love?
When one has to conform?

                              4

What is a rebel, without a cause?
What is a picture, without a frame?
What is a saddle, without a horse?
What is sane, without insane?

What is a bird, without any wings?
What is a song, without any rhyme?
What is a rhyme, without any words
Like a clock, without any time

Life is so idiosyncratic, and strange
And far, far to short
Lost, and wasted, youth, and innocence
Lost in time, no time to abort

What is love, is it as long as life?
Or as short as death?
Or as long as romance?
Or as short, as a shortness of breath?

What is love?
Love can be a mutuality of feeling,an emotional zoo
Love can be an unrequited passion
Ecstatic, erratic, and beautiful too

Love can be a war, without weapons
Or marriage, without divorce
Or like a life, without death
What is love?
Love is love, of course!

by Jemia
