raised up in the mountains when i was just a boy
loved to play the banjo it was my favourite toy
played along with grandpa and my grandma too
playing bluegrass music was all they ever knew

grandma she played fiddle. grandpa played guitars
we all played together underneath the stars
folks they gathered round when we began to play
dancing all together they danced the night away

to the bluegrass beat and a bluegrass song
a little bit of moonshine dancing all night long
dancing all together till the break of day
to the blue grass beat they danced the night away
