i)

what do they call that
when an army encircles-
some mad chuckle
from down the street..

-an antiquated expression-
a fifth column
(franco,attacked in four
columns-

the fifth was inside)
siege..!could go on
for years
and we ask why..?

ii

there is your heart
and there your pride
to consider
and there is mine

there are machines of
war
a horse and cart
and what we
were..

i can see you still
and what you
are
here-

a tin hat upon a
stick
some clear sky
and fear..
