Forever Heart Sky
We spent 3am ,
tongues twisted in conversations
plucked from the depths of our souls
flicking cigarettes against the brickwork,
their ashes hitting the ground, silently
we counted and named each star,
ripping up the book of constellations
because it didn’t speak of
our love, our passion, our urgency
we wanted to be new, fresh, vital
as if we had the right to stamp our mark
on the sky, forever
but why not,
when we knew that our hearts
would not, could not, love each other
forever
