i planted a seed
within two weeks
it's not a ****
i see that peeks

there grows a radish
of swelling root
in month we'll relish
with leaves to boot

yet same time
tomato seed
'neath soil 'n grime
i did breed

took much longer
to venture forth
but its stem came stronger
'n to flowers gave birth

And from same blooms
slow but sure
after two moons
attached secure

fruits bountiful
succulent 'n red
'midst foliage plentiful
in vegetable bed

sometimes a child takes time to mature
seems slow and young and immature
but beneath the surface, in place obscure
he's laying roots, strong and pure

a lettuce may grow in days threescore
but in a month and he's no-more
an acorn may take ten years more
till oak-tree stands firm and secure

for centuries he'll give you shade,
shelter, and fruit, while others fade
for greater things take long to root
that from earth's depths may grow their fruit
