The Heron
She swoops across an inkblot dawn
gold shimm’ring through dark grey
Arcs over slopes of emerald haze
a graceful ghost of white clay
Soaring southward overhead
a new day beneath her wings
Vanishing like a dream sublimed
as first light chorus sings
