Dec 2020
I dare to look up from the darkness,
So tentatively, I raise my head,
The light is glaring, vivid starkness,
Do I want these teary eyes instead?
The pain is constant, pure confusion,
How could this be what I will choose?
My stomach sickens from the intrusion,
Freedom is nothing left to lose,
A quick release and I catch my breath,
To land again in the void I know,
Peace only comes along with death,
And it’s in the darkness that we grow,
I gather the pieces, thorns and glass,
With a heavy heart I try once more,
A grand mosaic, earth, sky and grass,
And the emptiness I knew before.
But what’s this shadow, I look behind,
There is so much beauty I rub my eyes,
Out of the darkness and my own mind,
Has it all just been a new sunrise?
With shadows long and skies of blue,
Squinting as I try to find my way,
The change has come, what do I do?
Here in the light of this new day.
