From God he came, in fleshly form, and when
We understood so little of the divine
He came to teach us philosophy of Heaven
So all souls may rejoice in its fierce light again

In virtue awakened souls to their reward
For devoting life to pity, peace, compassion
At a time divine virtue was out of fashion
And power for its own sake was adored

I speak of Jesus, in his lifetime spurned
He preached the sublime heresy of Love
Invited us to walk in its golden grove

Praised for generations, borne aloft
By worship of his philosophy
He blesses, cherishes the devotee
