you laid there
The distance between us

the tear rolled down my cheek
no, not sobbing
I knew it was over but this knowing
didn't stop me
As I opened my mouth, I knew I'd regret it

"I love you"

released from my lips
the words echoing in the distance between us
you laid there, sleeping, not knowing
but what difference would it make
the silence response was just a repeat
