Before you were born did you cry
did you wonder about the wonder of why you were there
inside a room in a womb with no windows or air
did you think
of the rush as you were pushed out to the light
how did it feel
was it alright
did you manage to breast feed
did that need for the mother
smother all other thoughts?

These questions I ask as I bask on the shore near midnight's embrace
because what I remember is the look on Mums face
as I
arrived.
