Father Andrew Greeley: Why do I have to be James Joyce? James Joyce was the kind of genius who comes around once every few centuries, if that. Why can't James Joyce be James Joyce? Why can't I be me? I decided I wanted to be a priest when I was 7 years old growing up on the West Side of Chicago. It's all I've ever wanted to be. I've just tried to tell stories of God's love. And I think I have done that well.
