There seems to me too much misery, he said
Which explains Darwin's denial

Cannot be a loving God
Nature does not smile

I do not deny the misery
Or the terror of predation

But the beauty is a mystery
As is musical elation

Birds and whales also sing
Bats use echolocation

There may well be more hidden songs
In this curious creation

And silence holds hidden secrets
Like mystical contemplation
