My genes are from men
who crossed rivers without bridges
and moved mountains with their hands
my genes are from men
who knew they men in their mothers wombs
and spoke on the day they were born rather than cried
my genes are from men
who girded and sheathed rather than danced
and spoke to towns and cities while the harmattan wept ice
my genes are from men
who befriended brains and courted brawn
but married brains knowing it travels longer than its pretenders
my genes are from men
who grazed with lions and tigers
and brokered truce for each to govern their territories bloodlessly
my genes are from men
who knows the ins and the outs
and what each brings to the feast of the contented crowds
my genes are from men
who carried responsibilities as a first child
and made love to wisdom in daylight and all hours of calling
my genes are from men
who holds that you only fear fear itself
for cowardice is a ***** spread for many but honor is for the few
my genes are from my father
who was from men that made his father
and his fathers fathers fathers father who made men with crowns
its in my DNA.....I am my father's son.....its in my DNA

what can you tell me
when your fathers and your fathers father father
swept the courtyards of my father's compound
and your mothers mother mother fetched water for my mother
go sing to the birds and dance the dance of Jesters
in the village square
as your ancestors have always done
