We didn’t have much
But made do
With a few
Scattered seeds
Then we hoped,
And we prayed
As they grew
And renewing the earth
Introduced us from birth
How to value
The little
Material worth
Was afforded to us
In surplus
We could trade
Or in selling it for
What we couldn’t have made
On our own
For such constructs
Unknown
To a people
Whose ties to the land
Ever has been
Its equal
