Walking through the hallway
Of an ordinary public highschool
Fairfax, Virginia: early 2000s

Guitar class is letting out
Teenage boy - long dark hair
Acne, though I can barely
See his face

Black T-shirt
Two crossed guitars on the front
He passes by
I read the back of his shirt
As I walk toward my classroom:

"Inevitable extinction
Is not a thing
To be passively accepted
But rather
Actively rebelled against."

              Long live rock!
