Forbidden fruit
Looms over head
Just out of reach
From where I tread
Floodwaters from
Parched-tongue
Receding
Hands outstretched
To branch retreating
Slightly as it seems
To ripen
Spitefully
Invokes excitement
As the luscious
Treasure drips
Each drop eludes
My pursing lips
Resistance to
The torture tempts
Lamenting impudence
Torments
Me from the grace of gods
I fell
Expelled from whence
My hubris wells
Up high upon their pride
They dwell
Bemused, they cease to feud,
Revel
In what their clever
Living hell
Impels me to
Their retributions
Punitive, sin-cleansed
Ablution
Everlasting longing,
Yearning
To escape
These cravings
Burning
Learning all too late
The lessons
Mortals fated
To transgressions
Yet again
Unless they heed
Premonitory tragedies
We leave behind for them to read
And bear in mind
The planted seed
