How do you recover
From a past love you discover
Never went away?
Even though you say
You’ve gotten over it
Because you can’t admit
What your actions reveal
Your heart didn’t heal

A heart’s a fragile thing
And the joy that it can bring
Can be laced with sadness too
That some don’t make it through
To the other side
So their feelings are denied
It’s easier to pretend
That they’ve reached the end

So you think that it has past
You’ve come though it at last
But that’s merely an illusion
That gives you the false conclusion
That you recovered fast
And what’s past is really past
But the dye still has been cast

How do you recover
From a past love you discover
Never went away?
Even though you say
You’ve gotten over it
Because you can’t admit
What your actions reveal
Your heart didn’t heal
