We  owe you
A debt of gratitude
When we started out
You were the dude
Whose comedy
Helped set the mood
You were better than a plate
Of hot cooked food

In your footsteps
Is were we all tread
We listened closely
To every word you said
You’re the one who
Put it in all of our heads
That we could be like you
On TV in fancy threads

You know we owe it,
All to you
You’re the main reason
Why we do what we do
You’re the one we studied
And pointed to
When we decided
On comedy too

You probably got yours
From Richard Pryor
But you’re from our era
So we hold you higher
You’re our muse
And you inspire
Us to always do our best
And to reach higher
