What I have sown and hence reaped,
whether piles of stone or heaped loose
chaff threshed out and stacked,
beans sold as commodities
on the open markets
of acquaintance,
leaves the fields barren, ready
for an autumn cleanse,
fresh spreads of manure
to percolate down
with the cold rains
and held waters of winter.
