When we were young
deliveries to the houses
was a normal daily event.

There was an Oil Man
A Milk Man
A Coal Man
A Rag & Bone Man
A Dust Man
A Scrap Man
A Laundry Man
A Rent Man
A Pools Man.

And a Bread Man.

His is the only
name I remember.

Perhaps it is because
he was killed in a crash.

The neighbours had no
bread, my mother baked.

But I recall someone saying,
where in the **** is Jeffery.
