Distant drums
Confess you're a mess and that
you're worth much more than last night's
clothes strewn over this morning.s floor.
I'm doing the pick-me-up
Alka Seltzer
in a China cup,
( because everything's made in China,
except for my hangover )
Never again,
he said,
above the jackhammer
yammering in his head,
I shall be sober
industrious and
be that which is
in all of us,
but never is a long time
and again comes quite often
I'm leaving my options
open.
