May 2019
(pattys first day back teaching school again after summer vacation)

It is the
first day back
to school
and I am
missing you
again,

in all
of the
little things
that you
do that
become my
day.

coming
home from
tennis to
see our
empty bed.

walking through
a empty
house that
is never
home unless
you are
here,

listening
to hear
you talk
to our
children about
their upcoming
day and asking
all the right
motherly
questions
about it.

as if you
are secretly
teaching
them to swim.

but you
don't want
them to
know it.

the smell
of your
hair,

the way your
smile
lights
up a room,

the deep
kisses
every chance
we get.

truly I
am a morning
dove alone,

this first
day of
school.

where without
you there
seems no real
point

to ever
flying here

again....
