remember when we talked
at all hours of the night
such a time ago when
you needed me
a body to listen
to hum in understanding
nod along to your plans
chatter idly in the night
you wanted me
a mind to comprehend
to feel your pain
be filled with sorrow
mend with great care
it's all i ever was
to you and to you
butΒ Β an outlet for your fears
a face with barely a name
a fixer
a mender
a repairer of broken dreams
someone to piece you back
when your tears fell too hard
and the levies broke
and dams collapsed
when no one else heard your shouts
turn to cries
turn to knives
but when the bones had been set
and the tears laid to rest
you hid yourself away
forgot my hint of a name
and laid our friendship away.
