When I was a lad I
played with a Sliotar.

I was leaner back then
didn't drink, a lot fitter.

Life took a turn, bright
lights and the glitter,

Ended up on The Broadway,
drinking light, but not bitter!

With dole and some squatting,
which I described, as a sitter,

False names and forged certs,
I lived a life full of jitter.

Now I'm back, but no wiser,
and I hear people titter,

He's made his late run, he's
with Tidies, picks Litter !

Ps.

Line 2 Sliotar is the Irish
word for ball uses in Hurling.

Line 7/8. Fulham Broadway.
Light & Bitter, UK Drink.

The author is back in Mallow
his home town, after 45 years.

He left Ireland with nothing,
and came back with no less.

He now volunteers a day a
week with Tidy Towns.
