I've skittered off the race's side
At least in part,
Submitting scribbles to the sea

"Won't you commit to me?"

And yet, a lamp I held alight
Will guide us through this whirling night
The stars, my eyes, and tested strength
The art of life, and cough
Time well spent
This poem has a weak ending
