There's a man I once knew who sang the blues
Though I'm sure it wasn't in his plans
Kept a small stone in the toe of his shoe
To help him remember the things he'd forget

He would never back down nor throw in the towel
Though the blues is the blues is the blues
Never once slowed down in walking it out
Or so says the stone in the toe of his shoe

The look in his eyes weren't set on compromise
In all that life had put him through
He might have said to you if you haven't a clue
Try a stone in the toe of your shoe

Works wonders he said with memory kept
If you're deeply in debt to the blues
If only you can remember this my friend
Put a stone in the toe of your shoe

Then you won't go wrong with singing a long
To whatever song you're singing to
Being hard to ignore as the day runs its course
The stone in the toe of your shoe
